How did we get here???
The Friends of Spackman-Davis Farm started to come together over lunch in October 2023 in response to the overwhelming success of recent a Chester County Town Tour of the farm, a tour that drew over 300 visitors and set a post-covid county attendance record. In preparation for that event, volunteers had toiled inside the farmhouse, barn, root cellar, smokehouse, springhouse, and schoolhouse during some of the hottest, most unforgiving days of summer to bring it back from the brink and make this special place "Visitor Ready". The event itself created a sense of urgency to prevent further decline and usher in a new age of promise.
So, Old Caln Historical Society President Dawn Coughlan invited some friends together, friends like farm matriarch Marianne Griffith and family member Rick Spackman to break bread and brainstorm how to ensure the future of the farm didn't end with that tour. They decided then and there that a nonprofit - a living, breathing entity would ensure that the farm - also a living, breathing entity could help keep the farm alive and expand its possibilities. The nonprofit 501(c)3 was formed in March of 2024. It is our vow that this sacred land will never again fall into disrepair.
Through fundraising and our unique relationship with the township (who owns the property), we're determined to see the mission through to the end, if an end is possible. After all, the story of the Spackman's at 3401 Kings Highway has gone on for centuries, may it continue to be told.
Our mission
Friends of Spackman-Davis Farm is a 501c-3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore, protect, preserve, promote, and celebrate the historic resources and cultural landscapes of historic Spackman-Davis Farm in Chester County, PA through fundraising, events, communication, and education.
Our vision
We believe Spackman-Davis Farm should preserved for perpetuity as a working farm, a passive recreation park with walking trails, an artist meadow, reading benches, a history center, natural resources educational center, and County Heritage Site. Over time, we can see a wedding garden near the barn, the barn converted to an event space, the farmhouse as a B&B/living history museum.
Our Board of Directors
Nonprofit boards are best served by diverse individuals who think outside of the box, aren't afraid to push the envelope, see limitless possibilities, embrace the dream, and are all about Action. Here you'll find a selfless group that plays well with others and believes in the magic of purpose.
A Dentist, a Business Owner, a Historian, an Educator, a Cousin, a Musician, a Philanthropist, and the woman who grew up on the farm and made sure it would be preserved for all time.
